Veteran-Owned Used Car Dealer in Las Vegas
Charlie Cheap Car is family owned and veteran owned, and has sold used cars on West Sahara since 2001. If you are stationed at Nellis or Creech, just got out, or have served and call Las Vegas home, here is what to know about registering and financing a car in Nevada.
We work with several lenders for bad credit, no credit and first-time buyers, and we are open seven days a week. Financing is subject to lender approval.
Stationed in Nevada, resident of another state
According to the Nevada DMV, active duty military members who are residents of another state but stationed in Nevada qualify for a full exemption on the Governmental Services Tax, which is the largest part of registration on most cars. The exemption can be transferred to a spouse. The DMV fee page and its military pages have the details and the paperwork.
Nevada veterans: relief on your registration
County Assessors can approve Governmental Services Tax relief for veterans with certain dates of service, and for disabled veterans and their surviving spouses. In Las Vegas that means the Clark County Assessor. The timing matters: the DMV says you must claim the exemption when you register or renew, and it is not credited back afterward. Get it set up before you register the car.
Financing when you are in the service
Lenders care most about steady income and your down payment, and military pay is about as steady as income gets. One application goes to several lenders, so you get more than one chance at a yes. Approval and terms depend on the lender.
- Bring your latest Leave and Earnings Statement as proof of income.
- Bring your orders if you are moving soon, so nobody is surprised later.
- Bring your license, even if it is from another state, and your down payment.
Credit took a hit during a deployment or a move? It happens, and it does not rule you out. Read about bad credit financing, buying after a repossession and what to bring to get approved.
Buying for a short posting?
If you may get orders in a couple of years, buy something that will be easy to sell or trade when the time comes. Popular sedans, small SUVs and half-ton pickups sell quickly. Have the battery, tires, coolant and A/C checked if the car has not lived through a summer here; our guide on cars that can handle Las Vegas heat explains why. When it is time to go, we buy cars even if you are not buying one from us. See Trade Your Car.
