Car Loans on Social Security or Disability Income in Las Vegas

Retired, on disability, or living on a pension? Income from Social Security, SSDI, SSI, VA disability or a pension is real income, and some of the lenders we work with count it the same way they count a paycheck. It is steady, it arrives on the same day every month, and lenders like that.

Charlie Cheap Car has sold used cars in Las Vegas for 25 years. We are family owned and veteran owned, open seven days a week, and we work with several lenders, including ones for people on Social Security, SSI and other fixed incomes. Financing is subject to lender approval.

Income lenders may count

  • Social Security retirement benefits
  • Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • VA disability compensation and military retirement pay
  • Pensions and annuities
  • Any of these together with part-time work, or a spouse's income

Each lender sets its own rules on which of these it counts and how much. We send your application to the ones that fit your situation.

What to bring

  • Your award or benefit letter. You can download a current Social Security benefit verification letter from your my Social Security account at ssa.gov; the VA and pension plans send their own.
  • Recent bank statements showing the deposits.
  • A valid driver's license
  • Proof of address, such as a utility bill
  • Your down payment
  • Proof of insurance, or we can help you sort it out

Choosing a car on a fixed income

On a fixed income, the payment is only part of the cost. Before you choose, add up what the car will cost you every month:

  • Insurance. A financed car needs full coverage, and the price varies a lot from car to car. Get a quote before you decide.
  • Gas. A smaller car or a hybrid costs much less to run around town.
  • Repairs. A surprise repair bill is hard to absorb on a fixed income. A reliable model and an extended warranty plan can make costs more predictable.
  • Registration every year.

Tell us your budget and we will show you the cars that fit it, not the most expensive car you might get approved for.

If you receive SSI

SSI has a limit on what you can own. Social Security generally does not count one car used for transportation toward that limit, but money in the bank does count, including money you are saving for a down payment. If you are saving up, check with Social Security first so the savings don't affect your benefits.

For veterans

We are a veteran-owned dealership. VA disability compensation and military retirement pay are steady incomes, and some of our lenders count them. Bring your VA award letter or your retirement pay statement.

Common questions

Can I get a car loan if Social Security is my only income?

Often, yes. Lenders look at whether the payment fits comfortably within your monthly income. Steady benefits help.

Can a family member co-sign?

Some lenders allow a co-signer, which can help. Ask us when you call and we will tell you which lenders do.

Can I trade in my car?

Yes, even one you still owe money on. See Trade Your Car.

Do you help with bad credit too?

Yes. See bad credit car loans and car loans after bankruptcy.

How pricing works here

Every car shows the vehicle price with our dealer fees listed under it: $752.25 in total for documentation, title and smog. Tax, license and registration are extra.
