Which Honda fits you
- Civic: a compact sedan or hatchback that is easy on gas, fun to drive and a favorite first car.
- Accord: a midsize sedan with a big back seat and trunk. The four-cylinder is the thrifty choice, and the Accord Hybrid does especially well in stop-and-go city driving.
- CR-V and HR-V: the CR-V is one of the best-selling compact SUVs in the country; the HR-V is the smaller one. Both come with front- or all-wheel drive.
- Odyssey and Pilot: the Odyssey is a minivan and the Pilot a three-row SUV. Both seat seven or eight and share Honda's 3.5-liter V6.
What to check on a used Honda
- The timing belt on a V6. The 3.5-liter V6 in the Odyssey, Pilot and V6 Accord uses a timing belt that is due for replacement at around 100,000 miles or seven years; the car's Maintenance Minder will flag it. It is a sizable job, so ask whether it has been done. Four-cylinder Hondas use a timing chain instead.
- The transmission. Shifts should be smooth, with no slipping or flaring. Most four-cylinder Accords from 2013 and Civics from 2016 use a CVT, which should feel smooth and quiet pulling away from a stop.
- The A/C. Run it at full blast for the whole test drive. In a Las Vegas summer you will use it every day. See buying a used car that can handle Las Vegas heat.
- Open recalls. Many Hondas from the 2000s and early 2010s were part of the Takata airbag recall. Enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls; recall repairs are free at any Honda dealer.
A first car or a commuter
A Civic or Accord makes a good first car: affordable to run and easy to park. If this is your first car, read our first-time buyer guide before you shop. Driving for Uber or Lyft? See car loans for rideshare drivers.
How pricing works here
Every Honda shows the vehicle price with our dealer fees listed under it: $752.25 in total for documentation, title and smog. Tax, license and registration are extra. See dealer fees in Nevada for what each one covers.
Common questions
Are you a Honda dealership?
No. Charlie Cheap Car is an independent used car dealership. We choose and price our own used Hondas alongside other makes. For factory warranty work or recall repairs, any Honda dealer can help.
Is a Honda with over 100,000 miles worth buying?
It can be, if it was looked after. Ask for service records, find out whether a V6's timing belt has been done, and take a proper test drive that includes the freeway.
Can I finance a Honda with bad credit or no credit?
Often, yes. We work with lenders who look past a credit score, including for first-time buyers. Financing is subject to lender approval. See bad credit car loans.
Can I trade in my car?
Yes, even one you still owe money on. See Trade Your Car.
