Which Mercedes-Benz fits you
- C-Class and E-Class: the C-Class is the compact luxury sedan; the E-Class is larger and more comfortable on a long drive. Both are rear-wheel drive, with 4MATIC all-wheel drive on some.
- M-Class and GLE: the midsize luxury SUV, called the M-Class (ML 350 and others) until 2015 and the GLE from 2016.
- GLK, GLC and GLA: the smaller SUVs. The GLC replaced the GLK in 2016; the GLA is the smallest.
- Sprinter: the tall work van. The 2500 and 3500 are load ratings, and a high roof lets most people stand up inside. A crew van adds a second row of seats for a work crew; a cab and chassis has no body behind the cab, so a box, flatbed or utility bed can be fitted. Many Sprinters have a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel.
What to check on a used Mercedes-Benz
- Service records. Mercedes-Benz uses a schedule of alternating "Service A" and "Service B" visits. A car with records showing them done on time is worth more than one without.
- Warning lights and electronics. Make sure no warning lights stay on after start-up, and try the screen, windows, seats and sunroof. Electrical repairs on a German car add up.
- Air suspension. On models with AIRMATIC air suspension, check that the car sits level, and still sits level after it has been parked for a while.
- Diesel Sprinters. Check the AdBlue (diesel exhaust fluid) level, make sure no emissions warnings are showing, and ask for the service history. Diesel emissions repairs are costly.
- Rust on vans from out of state. Las Vegas is dry, but a Sprinter that spent winters somewhere with salted roads can have rust. Look at the door bottoms, wheel arches and under the floor.
- Open recalls. Enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Recall repairs are free at any Mercedes-Benz dealer.
Luxury on a budget, or a van for work
A used Mercedes-Benz costs far less to buy than a new one, but parts and service still cost luxury-car prices. Budget for maintenance, and consider one of our extended warranty plans. Buying a Sprinter for your business? If you are self-employed, lenders usually ask for bank statements or tax returns instead of pay stubs; see what to bring to get approved and all our used work vans.
How pricing works here
Every Mercedes-Benz shows the vehicle price with our dealer fees listed under it: $752.25 in total for documentation, title and smog. Tax, license and registration are extra. See dealer fees in Nevada for what each one covers.
